System Description

Switch on the NightOWL and wait until the camera has moved into the upper position.
Switch off the NightOWL after the the position is reached.
Replug the power and USB cable at the camera, place the microscope in the darkbox and
mount the camera on the microscope C-mount adapter
Now the system is ready to be used with the microscope.
To avoid any damage of the camera or microscope because of a moving camera drive
disable the Z-drive in the system configuration (see service manual) or use only applica-
tions with sample sizes of 300mm or higher.
Do not operate the NC-xxxE camera without the external fan. Otherwise, the camera will
overheat and this will destroy the camera.
Installing the camera

Remove the power supply cable and the connection cable from the camera.
Discharge electrostatics before touching the connector!
o
Unscrew the camera from the C-mount adapter.
o
Move the camera (z-axis) into the low position (step 98000) using the service soft-
ware or indiGO. Click on
, select Position
and choose Z-Axis and Position from the dropdown
menu.
o
Enter 98000 steps at the prompt and press OK to
move the camera to the specified position.
o
The camera moves down to the working height.
Switch off the system after the position is reached.

Fix the camera with both knurled screws on the camera transport unit. The
NightOWL logo / front sticker on the camera must face the front.
o
Connect the USB cable and the shorter power supply cable to the camera.
The ferrite core (when present) is secured on the camera with Velcro strips.
o
Fix both ventilation hoses, if available, to the connection studs of the camera
(magnetic catch).
o
Switch on the NightOWL.
Do not operate the camera without the connected ventilation hoses. Otherwise,
the camera will overheat and this may damage the camera.
