10.1.2 Macro Measurement Table
The macro measurement table is used for measurements in the close-up range if you are work-
ing with very small samples. Due to the elevated position of the table, the camera can move
closer to the object. This permits smaller image formats up to 30 x 30 mm. Due to the height of
the macro measurement table you have to add the table height of 40 mm to the sample height
when you enter the focus height.
To position the macro measurement table, push the front device feet made of rubber into the
bolt heads located on the bottom plate. This ensures that the table is always fixed in the same
position. The table is installed such that the recess for the camera drive unit on the table is fac-
ing left.
If you are working with the heated macro table, plug the connector into one of both 9-pole Sub-
D connectors on the rear left side of the darkbox. The device must be off, since after power on
of the NightOWL the heating system is detected and may get initialized. If the heating system is
plugged in during ongoing operation, if will work only after the device has booted up again.
After approx. 5-10 minutes the heated macro measurement table has reached its working tem-
perature (typically 37°C). To modify the initial temperature refer to the service manual.
10.1.3 Ring Light
The ring light is used to illuminate non-reflecting fluorescence samples.
The height adjustment allows adjustment of the ring light to the respective sample size for opti-
mum illumination. For adjustment, open the toggle screw and move the ring light to the desired
position. Then tighten the toggle screw again to fix the current position.
Plug the fiber optics connection into the transfer port in the right, upper section of the dark box
of the NightOWL. It ensures reliable light coupling. In addition, the connection can be secured
against inadvertently coming loose by the toggle screw at the transfer port.
Please note that the sample size should be not smaller than 130mm when using the ring
light in nominal position since smaller position will lead to a lens collision.
