4.1.13 Installing Fluorescence Filters
The NightOWL II is equipped with automatic filter changers for the excitation and emission path.
The excitation filter is located on a filter slider, which is accessible after opening the cover on
the front panel of the NightOWL II. The filter slider can hold 4 excitation filters with a diameter of
25 mm (1 inch).
Filters that have been placed in the filter slider should be protected from above against falling
out by the snap rings which are included with the device.
An arrow is printed on the fluorescence filter housing. With excitation filters this arrow should
face the sample, i.e. away from the source of light.
For emission filters (filter wheel) the arrow should also face the sample, i.e. away from the cam-
era.
The filter slider can be ejected through the indiGO software. The eject command can be found

When loading the filter please observe the correct installation direction (arrow on the filter
wheel).
To reload the slider select
. After that the slider will be initialized by the NightOWL.
Emission Filter Wheel
The emission filters are located on a filter wheel behind the lens. A filter wheel can hold up to 4
filters with a diameter up to 50 mm.
