4.2 Cleaning and care in homecare use
4.2.1 General information
Health risks associated with handling
infectious agents or pathogens
Infectious agents and pathogens in
the aspirate cause health risks.
• Never operate the device without an
external bacterial filter. (exception:
ASSKEA disposable secretion canis-
ter system)
• Replace the external bacterial filter
prior to each new patient or at least
every two weeks when used exclu-
sively for one patient, if it is used
frequently! (exception: ASSKEA dis-
posable secretion canister system)
• Reuse of bacterial filters for multiple
patients is prohibited for hygiene
and safety reasons!
4.1.5 Cleaning and disinfecting the
external canister ‘Bag’
Please note the respectively applicable hy-
giene instructions. Unless otherwise direct-
ed, please follow these steps:
1. Rinse the external canister ‘Bag’ under
running water.
2. Immerse the external canister ‘Bag’ in
disinfectant solution for immersion disin-
fection (see section 4.1.1) recommended
by ASSKEA GmbH, observing the specific
concentration quantity.
3. Then rinse the external canister ‘Bag’ thor-
oughly under running water and let it dry.
You can also autoclave the external canister
‘Bag‘ at 121 °C for 20 minutes.
ASSKEA GmbH recommends replacing the
external canister ‘Bag’ every 4 weeks at the
latest, if it is used and disinfected frequently.
4.1.6 Cleaning/disposal of the suction tube
Please note the respectively applicable hy-
giene instructions. Unless otherwise direct-
ed, please follow these steps:
1. Dispose of the suction tube in a proper
manner prior to each new patient!
2. If used for one patient only, rinse the suc-
tion tube with clear water (max. 0.5 l) using
the rinsing bottle after each aspiration pro-
cedure and place it in disinfectant solution
for immersion disinfection recommended
by ASSKEA GmbH (see section 4.1.1) dai-
ly, observing the specific concentration
quantity and the residence times.
3. Then rinse the suction tube thoroughly
with clear water and let it dry.
ASSKEA GmbH recommends replacing the
suction tube for each new patient and no
less than once per week at the latest, even if
used for one patient only, since the material
can become discolored and brittle due to fre-
quent use.
4.1.7 Cleaning and disinfecting the rinsing
bottle
Please note the respectively applicable hy-
giene instructions. Unless otherwise direct-
ed, please follow these steps:
1. Remove the lid of the rinsing bottle and
rinse both parts under running water.
2. Immerse the rinsing bottle and the lid in
disinfectant solution for immersion disin-
fection (see section 4.1.1) recommended
