Chapter 6 — Removal and Replacement
Procedures
6-1
Introduction
This chapter provides a table of replaceable parts and procedures for gaining access to the major MG3702xA
assemblies, subassemblies, and components for troubleshooting or replacement. Replacing most assemblies
will require additional adjustments to the instrument. Refer to
calibration/verification rework guide.
Before servicing this instrument, ensure you are familiar with the information in
and
Chapter 2, “Functional Description”
regarding exchange assemblies, instrument warranty,
and other basic information. Note that replacement of many assemblies will require updating of Frequency
Accuracy and/or Level Accuracy calibrations. Below are some other important reminders:
•
Do not unsolder or cut wires or cables. All cables and wires should be unplugged.
•
With the exception of replacing the processor (RTC) battery, never attempt to repair a defective
assembly that is under warranty or is an exchange item.
•
Installation of every replacement assembly is the opposite of removal.
•
The system motherboard is not a field-replaceable item. Contact the factory regarding any problem with
the system motherboard.
Warning
Hazardous voltages are present inside the MG3702xA whenever AC line power is connected. Turn
off the instrument and remove the line cord before removing any covers or panels. Troubleshooting
and repair procedures should only be performed by service personnel who are fully aware of the
potential hazards.
Caution
ESD Requirements:
The MG3702xA contains components that can be easily damaged by
electrostatic discharge (ESD). An ESD safe work area and proper ESD handling procedures that
conform to ANSI/ESD S20.20-1999 or ANSI/ESD S20.20-2007 is mandatory to avoid ESD damage
when handling subassemblies or components found in the S312D instrument. Repair of damage that
is found to be caused by electrostatic discharge is not covered under warranty. Always observe
proper static-sensitive component handling precautions.
Note
Many assemblies, subassemblies, and components within the MG3702xA family of instruments are
type and model dependent. Before replacing an assembly, subassembly, or component, always
verify the part number of the replacement item. Part numbers can be found in
.
When replacing RF components with SMA, K or V connectors it is important to torque these to the
proper value. In the MG3702xA unit that setting is 8 in/lbs. You can purchase a Anritsu torque
wrench which is set to 8 in/lb. The Anritsu part number is 01-201.
