CONNECTIONS
Ten RJ-45 jacks are provided on the Central Processing
Unit Module for system control connections (see Figure
2-3). The Central Processing Unit Module accepts
input from RS-232 based keyboards, alarm interface
units, external computers, and other RS-232 devices.
Additional control keyboards can be connected through
the use of an AD1981 Port Expander (see page A-5).
RS-232 Connections
For proper RS-232 communications, both the pin
definitions and the EIA Standard DTE or DCE
designation of such equipment must be observed. The
MP168 Switcher/Controller, as with all American
Dynamics equipment, is configured as a DTE device.
For DTE-to-DTE communications between an RS-232
device and the Central Processing Unit Module, the
following pin connections must be observed (see also
page A-2):
1. The XMIT pin of the RS-232 device must connect
to the RCD pin of the respective Central Processing
Module port.
2. The RCD pin of the RS-232 device must connect to
the XMIT pin of the respective Central Processing
Module port.
3. The GROUND pin of the RS-232 device must
connect to the GROUND pin of the respective
Central Processing Unit Module port.
If the connection distance between the Central
Processing Unit Module and the RS-232 device is
greater than 2.1 m (7 feet), a Junction Box (supplied)
must be used between the units (see page A-3).
NOTE: Two Packages, each containing one 2.1 meter
(7 foot) cable and one RS-232 Junction box
are included width the MP168 Bay.
