HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM 10 - 5
Re-/Installation of Brake Disc and/or Hub
Brake Disc Only: Install the five M6 x 16 button head bolts with
Loctite 243 and torque to
14 N-m (125 lbf-in)
. (Reference No.
10 in the exploded view at the beginning of this chapter)
Brake Disc and Hub: Follow the procedure outlined on page 9-4
of
Chapter 9 – Secondary Transmission System
that outlines
the installation of the Taper-Lock bushing and hub. As an
alignment reference, the brake disc must ride approximately
midway between the two brake pads.
Re-attach the caliper to the chassis by securing the two
mounting bolts that hold it in place and torque each to
25 N-m
(220 lbf-in)
.
Adjustment / Maintenance
Change the brake fluid each year.
It is very important to have a sufficient amount of brake fluid in
the reservoir at all times to avoid the creation of air bubbles in
the system. If air should become trapped in the system, follow
the procedure outlined below.
Pump the brake lever several times to build pressure in the
system. While holding the lever in the “brakes applied” position
with force, slightly unscrew the bleeder valve with a wrench (see
figure at right) to ensure that all air is purged from the system.
As the brake lever approaches the handlebar, re-tighten the
bleeder valve.
Repeat several times or until the flow of fluid from the bleeder
valve is completely free from air bubbles.
Ensure that the bleeder valve is tight and the rubber cover is
placed over the fitting for protection when finished.

NOTE:
Never use DOT 4 brake fluid for intense or competition use.
