AU User Controls, Settings and Operation
that allows a conversion from camera pixels, to convergence steps. This is done on a test point by
test point basis. If the automated
Convergence Calibration
routine has been completed and indicates
some inadequate results in test points, revisit those test points via the
Convergence Maintenance
Window
and adjust the settings. The automated Convergence calibration routine does not need to
be performed again. If a scale factor is insufficient, use the
Auto Scale
button. If the Visibility Settings
are insufficient, use the settings in the
Vision Control Tab
and the
Auto G2 and Drive
button to correct.
Use the
AGC
button to have
AU
test the image quality of each of the pertinent colors. A test score
above 50% for all colors indicates acceptable settings. Higher scores are desirable. To further verify
the correct settings, press the
Run Convergence
button.
AU
will try to run the Convergence correction
algorithms on the active test point. If success is indicated, the settings are satisfactory.
NOTE:
All the scaling factors for a convergence set point should have scale factor numbers with the
same sign.
NOTE:
Test points that display equivalent amounts of misconvergence in response to the
Show
Misconvergence
checkbox should have equivalent scale factor magnitudes.
2.3.5.3
Calibration of the Geometry relationships
An isolated test point means little when dealing the Center and Screen Geometry passes. The
corrections from both of these passes influence the entire screen; thus, one test point out of
alignment may not necessitate changes. The calibrated relationships here use an evaluation of the
entire set of test points; and – unlike
Convergence Calibration
– if changes are made to test points
after calibration, the automated calibration routine must be performed again.
NOTE:
If changes are made to Center and Screen Geometry test points after Calibration, the
automated calibration routine (the appropriate Setup > Calibration > Geometry menu is
chosen based on the test point set(s) altered) must be performed again.
To explain further, consider the
Skew
geometry adjustment. When
Vertical Skew
is changed, the
measured Screen Geometry test points should show little change in the horizontal reading and
positive or negative change in the vertical direction. The vertical change is proportional to the
direction of the
Skew
change and the vertical distance from the center. Note that direction is relevant.
The test points on one side of the center will move towards the left of the projector, the test points on
the other side of center will move towards the right of the projector. The waveform shown in this
figure shows the test point error readings measured on a facet after
Vertical skew
has been introduced.
In this waveform, there are 24 test points in the set. The first 24 measures are the horizontal
readings; the second 24 measures are the vertical measures.
During the second stage of the Geometry calibration (first stage is AGC calibration);
AU
introduces a
known amount of distortion of the tested projector geometry. After measuring the entire test point set,
the generated waveform is stored as part of the calibration data. This waveform is used during the
calibration to configure and proportion an
Expert Knowledge Rule Base
. This
Rule Base,
along with
the generated set of waveforms – one waveform for each projector geometry –is used during further
correction operations to identify the correct projector geometry and to calculate the magnitude of the
necessary changes.
At the conclusion of the Calibration operation, any insufficient results are stored in a text file and
displayed in a separate notepad window. Each projector with insufficient results generates a
separate file. The contents of the text file describe the specific instances and the test points that may
require additional adjustment. VDC document number 79041-01 FMEA worksheet includes, among
other items, all of the messages that may appear in this text file. Associated with each of these setup
failure conditions, are suggested causes, and possible courses of action to correct the issues.
