6.4.4.2 _INTERMEDIATE BASS MANAGEMENT
The Intermediate Bass Management main purpose is to allow a speaker to be bass managed not only on a subwoofer
but also on a satellite (“satellite” means “any speakers except subwoofers”). Note that the LFE channel can also be freely
routed to any satellite.
Here are various examples of applications:
• Dolby Up-Firing speakers: Up-firing speakers require their low frequencies content to be reproduced by the speakers
beneath them;
• In-ceiling speakers: In-ceiling speakers are usually smaller. It can be very useful to bass manage them with the closest
bigger speaker (the bigger speaker being potentially bass-managed to a subwoofer);
• No subwoofer: if the Home-Theater audio-system does not have any subwoofer but only 5/7 speakers able to reproduce
very low frequencies, redirect the LFE to every speaker may be mandatory to keep the integrity on the content.
NOTE: Bass Management mode must be set to On in order for these settings to be taken into account.
NOTE: Be aware that it will depend on the speaker’s specs to reproduce the integrity of the content.
To add speakers, please click on the ”+ Satellites”:
A new section is shown displaying a checkbox to every speaker (except the one you are bass-managing to avoid any feedback
loop) will be unfold.
Here, you can select which bigger speaker will receive the redirected bass from the smaller speaker. In the example above,
the in-ceiling Left Top Front speaker will be bass-managed to the Left Surround speaker. In situation, the frequencies
below 80Hz of the Left Top Front speaker will be redirected to the Left Surround speaker, filter type being Linkwitz-Riley
with 24dB/octave slope.
You can also adjust the gain and the polarity on the bass-managed signal. The gain of the speakers will not be affected, only
the bass-managed signal will.
