Network power and ground

In the DeviceNet, the power for communication is supplied from the power line (V+/V-) of the DeviceNet cable

via the network connector. This section describes how to supply network power to the DeviceNet cable and

how to configure the network power. It also describes how to ground the network.

3.6.1

Network power supply method

To supply network power to the DeviceNet cable, it is necessary to use the power strip (

Figure 3-4) specified

by DeviceNet. The power strip is used to connect the power supply to the trunk cable. The power strip has the

following functions.

When multiple power supplies are connected to a single network, prevent backflow of current to the power

supply due to potential difference

Support up to 16A from power supply directly connected to power tap

A protection circuit (fuse or circuit breaker) limits the current flowing from the power tap in each direction

of the cable to a maximum of 8A

Provides network grounding terminal
