4) While the states of 2) and 3) are maintained, install the developing
shutter drive idle gear.
5) After installing the developing shutter drive idle gear, check that all
the cut surfaces of the four developing shutter drive shafts are
facing upward at the same angle.
6) If the condition of 5) is not satisfied, pull out the developing shutter
drive gear which is shifted from the others.
7) Fit the shifted developing shutter drive shaft surface to the other
surfaces and insert the gear.
When assembling the developing shutter drive section, the cut sur-
faces of the four developing shutter drive shafts must be aligned to
the same angle.
(4) Precaution
The adjustment must be performed for each tooth of the gear
deliberately.
If the adjustment is improper, a trouble may occur where the develop-
ing unit must be replaced.
(5) Troubles caused by improper adjustment
The following troubles may occur when the adjustment is improper.
*
The developing shutter does not open or close completely when it
should. As a result, the following phenomena may occur.
(Splash of developer and toner from the developing unit)
(The print density is low. (insufficient quantity of developer and
toner on the developing roller))
(The print colors are dark and unclear.)
(The print color balance is improper.)
In the worst case, all the developing shutters are kept opened. In
that case, four-color developer and toner are mixed and normal
color reproduction cannot be performed. In such a case, the
developing unit must be replaced.
2. Optical section
A. Scanner unit position (angle) adjustment
(1) Outline/purpose
This adjustment is performed to minimize distortion of the print im-
ages.
Concisely the scanner unit position (angle) is adjusted so that laser
beams are radiated on the OPC drum in parallel.
(2) Cases where this adjustment is required
*
When the print images are distorted.
*
When the scanner unit is replaced or disassembled.
*
When the scanner unit frame is replaced or disassembled.
(3) Details
1) Use a drawing software to draw a rectangle of max. size on A4
(11" x 8.5") paper.
2) Print the rectangle drawn in 1).
3) Check for distortions of the print image of the rectangle.
If the four corners are right angles, there is no distortion.
If there is any distortion in the printed image (the four angles are
not right angles), perform the following procedures.
