[5] INSTALLATION
1. Installation (use) environment check
Be sure to check the following installation (use) environment check
before installing the machine.
If the installation (use) environment conditions are not satisfied as
shown below, the machine may not display its performance fully,
causing troubles and safety problems. If the installation (use) condi-
tions are not satisfied, be sure to arrange the conditions before in-
stalling the machine.

(1) Installing space
Allow the following space around the machine for proper operations
and machine performances.
Also consider the space for options.
Allow enough space at the back of the machine. If this space is not
sufficient, heat radiation or dust prevention is not performed properly,
causing poor performances and troubles.
(2) Power source
(capacity, voltage, frequency, safety, plug)
If the power source conditions are not satisfied, the machine perfor-
mances cannot be displayed and safety problems may occur.
1) Capacity of power source
Check that the following power capacity is satisfied. If not, add the
power source.
Power capacity: 15A or more (100V series)
Power capacity: 7A or more (200V series)
2) Power voltage
Measure the voltage during copying to check that it is the rated
v- 10 %.
If the above condition is not satisfied, use thicker wire to reduce
the impedance.
There is another way to use a step-up transformer, the capacity of
which should be more than the max. power consumption of the
machine.
3) Power frequency, waveform
The frequency fluctuation should be -2% of the specified
frequency. If the waveform is distorted, troubles may be caused.
4) Safety
Be sure to ground the machine.
5) Power plug
Check the power plug shape, and do not use unmatched-shape
one.
(3) Base strength and horizontal level
This condition contributes to the safety. Be sure to use a base of
sufficient strength.
If the machine is not levelled, the toner density control is not per-
formed properly, affecting the print quality adversely.
(4) Avoid the locations of extremely high or low
temperature, or high or low humidity (i.e., near
a heater, air conditioner, humidifier).
1) Temperature, humidity
The paper contained inside will absorb moisture and condensation
will form inside the printer. This will result in paper jams and poor
print quality.

2) Dust
If dust enters the machine, dirty copy, paper jam, of shortened life
may be caused.
3) Direct sunlight
If the machine is subject to direct sunlight, the external cabinet
may be discolored and copy quality may be degraded.
