Checking the propeller shaft

Check the propeller shaft. Replace if
damaged or worn.

Measure the propeller shaft runout.

Checking the dog clutch

Check the dog clutch, shift plunger, cross
pin, and spring. Replace if cracked or
worn.

Checking the propeller shaft housing

Check the propeller shaft housing.
Replace if cracked or damaged.

Checking the reverse gear

Check the teeth and dogs of the reverse
gear. Replace if cracked or worn.

Assembling the propeller shaft
assembly

Align the hole

in the dog clutch

with

the hole

in the propeller shaft

Install the spring

TIP:

Install the dog clutch

with the “F” mark

facing toward the forward gear.

Install the cross pin

and cross pin ring

, and then install the shift plunger

Assembling the propeller shaft
housing assembly

Do not reuse a bearing, oil seal, or O-ring,
always replace it with a new one.

Install a new needle bearing

to the

specified depth

Needle bearing attachment
