Power unit

Adjusting the start-in-gear 
protection cable

Make sure to remove the clip from the
engine shut-off switch before checking
the start-in-gear protection.

1.

Move the shift lever to the N position.

2.

Loosen the locknut 

1

, and then align the

cable end 

a

 with the mark 

b

 on the

manual starter cover by turning the
adjusting nut 

2

.

3.

Tighten the locknut 

1

.

4.

Check that the starter handle can be
pulled.

5.

Move the shift lever to the F or R posi-
tion.

6.

Check that the starter handle cannot be
pulled.

Measuring the starter rope

1.

Pull the starter handle to extend the
starter rope completely, and then mea-
sure the starter rope extended length
