Fuel System
Notice:
The procedure to prime the fuel system on
outboard engines is specific to the type and
model of engines on your boat. You should
refer to engine manufacturer owner’s manu-
al for the priming procedure for your engines.
Quad Engine Fuel Management
During normal operation with quad engines, the
port engine should be supplied fuel from the port
tank, the starboard engine supplied fuel from the
starboard tank. The starboard mid and port mid
engines should be supplied fuel by the center tank.
This configuration will keep the boat properly bal
-
anced and reduce the possibility of fuel supply
problems. It also ensures that enough fuel will
cycle through each tank to reduce the possibility
of fuel degradation in one of the tanks.
You should avoid selecting the port or starboard
tank for the center engines during normal opera-
tion. If not done correctly for both center engines,
this could cause the boat to become improperly
balanced, which will affect the handling and safe
operation of the boat. Only select the port or
starboard tank for the center engines when there
is a fuel supply problem in the center tank.
If contamination or a fuel delivery problem occurs
in one of the tanks and emergency fuel tank selec-
tions are necessary, it is important to be conscious
of weight and balance and manage the fuel tank
selections to keep the boat properly balanced
whenever possible.
If a fuel supply problem occurs in the port or star-
board tank, all three engines should be switched
to the center tank first. When the fuel level in
the center tank drops below 1/3, one port/star-
board engine and one center engine can be left
on the center tank and the other center engine
and port/starboard engine can be switched to the
other good tank. The idea is to keep the boat
properly balanced as long as possible. If all four
engines are run from the center tank and the port
or starboard fuel tank, the trim tabs will need to
be adjusted as necessary to compensate for list-
ing and maintain a level running attitude as fuel
is consumed.
CAUTION
W H E N E M E R G E N C Y F U E L TA N K S E L E C T I O N S A R E
NECESSARY, PAY ATTENTION TO THE FUEL LEVEL IN
THE CENTER TANK AND SWITCH ONE PORT/STARBOARD
AND CENTER ENGINE TO THE OTHER GOOD TANK AND
LEAVE ONE PORT/STARBOARD AND CENTER ENGINE ON
THE CENTER TANK WHEN THE FUEL LEVEL IN REACHES
1/3. THIS WILL PROVIDE ADDITIONAL RUN TIME FOR THE
THE ENGINES. CONSIDER SHUTTING DOWN ONE CENTER
ENGINE IF THE FUEL SUPPLY BECOMES MARGINAL.
WHEN ENGINES RUN OUT OF FUEL THEY WILL SHUT
DOWN SUDDENLY AND YOU WILL LOOSE THE ABILITY TO
CONTROL THE POSITION OF THE BOAT FOR SEVERAL
MINUTES WHILE THE FUEL SYSTEM IS PRIMED SO THE
ENGINES CAN BE RESTARTED. THIS COULD ENDANGER
THE BOAT AND CREW IN ROUGH SEAS, AN INLET OR A
BUSY WATERWAY. ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO RETURN THE
SELECTOR VALVES TO THE NORMAL POSITION WHEN THE
FUEL SUPPLY PROBLEM IS CORRECTED.

5.3 Diesel Generator Fuel System
The diesel fuel system for the generator is com-
pletely separate from the gasoline system. The
diesel fuel tank is located in the stern bilge below the
cockpit and is filled from a fuel fill deck plate on the
starboard gunnel labeled “Diesel.” The diesel fuel
system is not equipped with an anti-siphon valve
and there is a fuel return line from the engine that
returns unused fuel to the fuel tank.
Proper diesel engine operation requires a good sup-
ply of clean, dry diesel fuel. Improper marina fuel
storage techniques, limited boat usage, etc. can
cause the fuel to become contaminated. Periodi-
cally, it may be necessary to pump accumulating
water and contaminated fuel from the bottom of
the fuel tank. If the generator fuel system on your
boat becomes contaminated, contact your dealer or
Scout Customer Service for assistance.
Algae can grow in the accumulated water in diesel
fuel tanks. This condition is most prevalent in warm
climates. Periodically adding a high quality diesel
fuel additive containing an algicide may be required
to control algae in your boating area. You should
contact your dealer or the generator manufacturer
for additional information regarding fuels and ad-
ditives.
