Fuel System

CAUTION

DO NOT REMOVE THE ANTI-SIPHON VALVES FROM THE 
SYSTEM.  SHOULD THE VALVE BECOME CLOGGED, CLEAN 
AND REINSTALL OR REPLACE.

A fuel filter for each engine is located on each side 

of the aft systems room.  The filters are the water 

separator type and should be serviced frequently 

to assure an adequate supply of clean, dry fuel to 

the engines.  It is recommended that the filters be 

inspected periodically and the elements changed 

as needed or recommended by the engine manu-

facturer.  Note that some engines have the fuel 

filter mounted on the engine and there is no filter 

in the aft systems room.

There is a primer bulb in each fuel line located 

near each filter that are used to prime the fuel 

system after service or as required.  See Fuel Sys-

tem Maintenance in this chapter and the engine 

owner’s manual for additional information on the 

fuel filters and the outboard engine fuel system.

Fuel Management

Proper fuel management is important on all boats.   

Each fuel tank is equipped with a fuel withdrawal 

tube for each engine.  Labeled  valves for each 

engine allow the operator to select which fuel 

tank (port, starboard or center) supplies fuel to 

the engine.

automatic shutoff valve on the marina fuel pump 

nozzle to prevent the tank from being overfilled 

and/or fuel from being ejected from the fuel fill/

vent fitting.  You should never attempt to “top off” 

the  tank  after  the  pump  shutoff  has  activated.  

The shutoff valves will not allow additional fuel to 

be added after they close and could be damaged 

by attempts to force additional fuel into the tank.

After fueling, close and latch the fill cap.  Then 

wash spilled fuel from the areas around the fuel 

fill if necessary.  Residual fuel left on the deck and 

hull sides can be dangerous and will yellow the 

fiberglass or damage the striping.

5.2  Outboard Engine Fuel System

The fuel system on your Scout has three fuel 

tanks, port, center and starboard located in the 

bilge below the cockpit sole.  Each tank is equipped 

with 3 or 4 fuel withdrawal tubes, depending on 

the engines installed.  Each fuel withdrawal line 

is equipped with an anti-siphon valve where the 

line attaches to the fuel tank.  This valve prevents 

gasoline from siphoning out of the fuel tank should 

a line rupture. 

The fuel supply to each engine is controlled by 

labeled selector valves for each engine located in 

the aft systems room, below the center hatch in 

the rear of the cockpit.  The valves are ON when 

the lever is pointed toward a labeled fuel tank and 

parallel with the fuel flow.  The valve is OFF when 

the lever is perpendicular to the flow.  All valves 

can be turned to the OFF position to shutoff the 

fuel supply when servicing the fuel system.
