Filling the water tanks
Tanks must be filled only in rigged condition and dumped completely prior de-
rigging.
Warning:
The tank on either side must always be filled with the same amount
of water to prevent negative influence on the stability in the roll axis.
Each tank features a round opening in the upper wing surface near its outside end.
Fill the wing tanks from the inner tanks to the outer tanks.
The middle and the outboard wings tanks are linked together. Therefore filling can
be done either through the opening of each tank or both tanks can be filled
through the opening of the outboard tank.
Filling through the opening of the outboard tank is slower than filling each tank
separately, since the connection between outboard and middle tank slows down
the water flow.
When filling the tanks it must be ensured that the maximum water ballast is not
exceeded see page 6.2.2 and 6.2.3.
Dumping the water ballast
Dumping is done in two steps. In the first step only the inner tanks are dumped. In
the second step all tanks including the fin tank (option) are dumped.
The middle and the outboard tank are dumped simultaneously through the dump
valve of the middle tank.
From full tanks following dump times results at a speed of 120 km/h (64 kt, 68
mph):
- inner tanks ca. 5 minutes
- middle and outboard tanks ca. 12 minutes 30 seconds
Without the inner tanks following dump times results for the middle and the
outboard tanks:
30 seconds for ca. 50 liter
120 seconds for ca. 90 liter
