Diesel engine
7.1.4.5 Change of coolant (on RP2Sd)
Use only corrosion protection/antifreeze agents approved by Volvo. The coolant must
be changed every 8000 operating hours, but at least every 4 years. In any case, com-
ply with the regionally applicable regulations on environmentally compatible disposal
of coolant.
(1) Drain valve for coolant of the engine coolant circuit
(2) Drain valve for coolant of the charge air coolant circuit
Before changing coolant, check the cooling and heating system for leaks and condi-
tion.
The drain valve for the engine coolant circuit ( 1 ) is located at the right rear of the
engine on the cooling water pipe. The drain valve for the charge air coolant circuit ( 2 )
is located on the cooling water pipe at the bottom of the engine.
– Slowly open the filler cap at the expansion tank of engine cooling system, relieve
excess pressure, then take off the cap.
– Screw on drain hose on the drain valve.
– Drain coolant and catch coolant in a suitable vessel.
– Close drain valve again.
– Fill in coolant in the prescribed combination up to the lower edge of the filling neck
and close the cover lid.
– Set the desired temperature for the air conditioning system to the maximum tem-
perature, so that the control valve for the heating system is opened.
– Start diesel engine and let it run for about 1 minute at differing rotational speeds.
– Check the coolant level and, in case of need, fill up coolant.
– Have replacement of coolant confirmed in service documentation.
