Chapter 6: Replacements

ABL77 Service Manual

COM1 Cable

Introduction

Follow these steps to install the COM1 cable.

Step Action

1.

Remove the electronics module.

2.

Remove the analog board.

3.

Disconnect the interface board from the CPU board. It is not necessary
to disconnect the interface board cables.

4.

Disconnect the COM1 cable from the front of the CPU board.

5.

Unscrew the two sets of gold jack screws, nuts and star and split
washers that are securing the COM1 cable to the rear panel. Remove
the old cable.

6.

Install the new COM1 cable (item

1

in figure 6-33) from the back of

the rear panel. Insert two gold jack screws with star washers from the
front. Secure the screws with the split washers and nuts attached on
the back. If the connector has threaded inserts, fasten with the screws
and star washers. All hardware is provided with the cable.

IMPORTANT:

Ensure that the washers are not touching the metal

housing of the COM1 cable as this may cause an electrical short.

7.

Apply a small drop of Loctite 222 to the threads.

8.

Route the COM 1 cable from the rear panel across the top of the CPU
board and plug it into the 10-pin, right angle header on the front right
of the CPU board. Connect it with the red strip on the far right.

9.

Re-assemble the analyzer and discard the old cable and hardware.
