Chapter 4: Test and Calibration Procedures
Check Valve Fluidics System
Introduction
Follow this procedure to determine which valve is malfunctioning on a valve board
with replaceable valves and the check valve fluidics system. This test is only to be
used with the check valve fluidics configuration.
Materials
•
One Valve board calibration cassette (REF: 920-729)
•
One 3cc disposable syringe with luer adapter (Sample Path Obstruction Tool Kit,
REF: 905-674)
•
One index card or equivalent
•
One hemostat or equivalent clamping device
Applying a
vacuum
The following steps are to be used with the following procedure when the
application of vacuum is required.
1. With the syringe plunger in the fully depressed position, place it securely onto
the analyzer luer.
2. Pull the syringe plunger out to its maximum position.
3. Release the plunger and carefully note its resting position.
4. Repeat four more times (5 in total), noting its resting position each time.
Vacuum is maintained when the plunger returns to its original position after each
of the 5 trials.
A loss of vacuum is identified by the plunger resting increasingly further and
further from the original resting position with each pull of the plunger.
Valve operation
Each valve has three ports. One is a common port (COM) and is always open. A
second port is a normally opened (N.O.) port and is open when the valve is at rest
(non-energized). The third port is normally closed (N.C.) and is closed when the
valve is at rest.
A non-energized valve refers to a valve in its resting position. A non-energized
valve provides an open fluid pathway between the COM port and the N.O. port.
An energized valve refers to a valve with a voltage applied to its coil. An energized
valve provides an open fluid pathway between the COM port and the N.C. port (the
N.O. port is now closed).
