6. The molded part will yield the left and
right shields so flip the template over
and trace it again on the other edge.
Cut out the shields and rough up the
bottom of the 1/8” flange.
7. Position the shield on the wing
adjacent to the lens’ edge. Note that the
aft edge extends behind the aft edge of
the lens and the shield’s LE is set back
from the LE of the wing. The flange
extends toward the fuselage. Trace the
outline of the flange on the wing skin.
Rough up this area with sandpaper.
This shield will tend to get bumped
often, therefore you should apply a
reasonable amount of thick CA at the
joint. With that in mind, applying
packing tape adjacent to the flange will
prevent glue seepage on to the wing
skin.
The full size T-34C shield has two small
holes at the rear. You can drill these
now or after painting, if desired.
Wing Wiring and Plumbing
1. Join the wing halves together. Use 5
minute epoxy to attach the foam belly
pan supports as shown below and tape
down firmly until cured.
2. Use an X-acto knife to remove the
area of the support over the cavity.
3. Use CA or epoxy to attach a 1/8”
thick ply plate (2” x 2.5”) as shown.
Once cured, center your air valve (U.P.2
valve shown) within the cavity.
