use a straight edge for the best trim
lines possible. Leave the skin’s tip as
long as possible for now.
Place the trimmed skin back onto the
wing. Trace the skin’s edges at the root
(as shown below), LE and around the
hatches and gear doors. This will tell
you where to place the adhesive.
6. Remove the skin from the wing and
remove its protective film from its bottom
surface. Apply adhesive in the pattern
shown.
Spread the adhesive evenly. Hint: If
you are not sure how best to “level” the
skins adjacent to the gear doors and its
front and rear pieces, do not put
adhesive near the skin’s edges. This
allows you to later insert a spacer
underneath the skin to get its height
right where you want it.
This can occur after the adhesive has
cured and you can CA the skins to
spacers and the spacers to the foam.
7. With a paper towel, rub the skin in
long strokes to remove the trapped air
underneath. Once the skin is rubbed
down, check its alignment with the
reference marks you made at the LE
and TE. Lastly, perform the light test to
inspect the surface. If you see an area
that is not as smooth as you would
want, lift the skin there and spread more
adhesive, then re-rub the skin.
Skinning the Top Wing
1. Prior to applying the skin to the top
wing, you first need to add support for
the flap overhang. To do this, take the
1/32” ply strips and trim them to 20”
long.
