6. Apply CA with an applicator tip under
the LE for about a distance of 10” or so.
Apply just a small amount so that it does
not seep out the LE onto the wing when
you apply pressure against the LE edge
with a straight edge as shown below.
Repeat this process every 10” or so of
the LE. When the top edge is
completed, remove the packing tape,
and then apply CA to the bottom edge in
a similar fashion.
Wing Tip
1. Peal away the top and bottom wing
skin’s protective film from the tip. Test
fit the wing tip skin over the wing and
note its fit. With it pressed onto the
wing, mark its edges onto the wing
skins. Sand the mating surfaces of the
tip skin and wing skins.
2. The fixed foam TE may need some
additional foam to better match the tip
skin. Add scrap foam as needed then
cut off with a long, sharp blade.
3. If you are using navigation lights,
wire them together and test their
operation. Secure the lights to the wing
tip skin. For the strobe light, you can
use some scrap plastic to make a
support for the bulb then use screws to
fasten it to the wing tip skin – this way
you can remove it for maintenance.
For the red/green navigation light, you
can add a drop of glue (we use hot glue)
on the outside surface of the tip skin to
secure an LED. Leave sufficient wire on
each bulb so you can pull out the wires
(for maintenance) once the tip skin is
glued to the wing. Remove some foam
at the tip to give the excess wire a place
to go. You can choose to paint the
portion of the tip skin under the
navigation light lens as shown above.
