Keep removing material from the tail
cone until the forward edge of the tail
cone meets the reference lines on the
sides of the fuse TE.
Make sure the elevator control arm can
rotate without touching the tail cone.
9. With these initial cuts made, you can
now work on permanently joining the tail
cone halves. Remove the tape and
separate the halves. Remove the film
from the inside surfaces, if there is one.
Rough up the inside edges of each half
along the centerline.
10. To help level the edges, gently rub
the halves over a sheet of medium grit
sand paper until you observe that the
centerlines are flat and make contact
with each other evenly.
11. To join the two halves you will use a
piece of scrap polycarbonate. Using a
flat portion of the excess material you
trimmed from the tail cone flashing will
work fine. Make two joiner strips about
½” wide by the length of the tail cone.
Remove the film from it and rough up
one side with sandpaper.
12. Use CA to attach one half of the
joiner strip to the top tail cone edge.
Use clamps to ensure a strong bond.
The strip will want to continue to follow
the shape of the top edge, however, to
join the other half you will need to bend
down the remaining, unglued half of the
strip.
This bend is gradual near the front and
becomes more acute near the back.
Below, is a view of the bend from the
back.
