Step 4. Aiming the Antennas
Aiming the First Antenna
1. Loosen the Bolts
Use a ½-inch socket wrench to loosen the bolts on the antenna mount. Make sure that the bolts on the upper and
lower yokes have been loosened just enough to be able to rotate the antenna on the mast. The rubber collar supports
the weight of the Outdoor Unit during aiming.
2. Set Azimuth in Center of Peak Signal
Slowly
(over about
5 seconds)
sweep the ODU in azimuth (side-to-side) covering a
90-degree arc.
Use the ODU’s BNC connector and a digital multi-meter (DMM) to aim the antenna. The ODU’s BNC connector
provides an aiming voltage (0 – 5 VDC) that allows you to estimate the strength of the received signal. Use the
digital multi-meter (DMM) to determine the antenna’s position that corresponds to the greatest RSSI (Received
Signal Strength Indicator) value. The graph below shows the relationship between voltage and RSSI.
