Chapter 2: Installation

Installation Preparation: The Path Survey & Cable
Installation

Before beginning installation, you should complete path and site surveys for the link, including line-of-sight path
planning, antenna supports, and pre-installation preparation. The path survey should also specify the expected
signal strength between the two antennas.

Proxim strongly recommends that a qualified radio engineer perform

the path survey.

The procedure to perform a path survey is beyond the scope of this manual. If you have questions

about or problems with the path survey, contact your reseller or Proxim Technical Support.

Assembling Tools and Cables Before You Begin

The following tools are needed during installation:

For Installing the IDUs and ODUs

1/2" socket wrench

•

1/8" slotted screwdriver

•

Assorted hand tools

•

#2 Phillips screwdriver

•

Digital multi-meter

•

Torque wrench (if you intend to change antenna polarity)

•

PC or laptop running HyperTerminal, or an equivalent VT-100 terminal emulation program. The PC or
laptop must have a serial port with a DB-9 male connector or adapter to connect to the serial cable’s DB-9
female connector.

•

Straight through 8-pin RJ-45 serial cable
