32 Stratum Installation and Maintenance Guide
Setting Antenna Aiming Mode, Transmit Power, and the Link Security ID
Within the System Administration menu, use the down arrow key to select [Link Setup..] and press Enter to view
the Link Set-Up menu, shown below.

Using the space bar to toggle between the available options, specify the Transmit Power Level to either low or
high power. Typically, low power is used for links spanning less than approximately 500 feet and high power is
used for links over longer distances. The appropriate power setting should have been determined during the path
survey.
Enter a 10-character value for the Link ID field. A valid Link ID is one to ten alphanumeric characters.
The Link ID is case sensitive. Note that spaces, commas, periods, etc. are not valid characters to use
within a Link ID. The Stratum uses the Link ID with the Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol
(CHAP). For any given Stratum link, both IDUs must have the same Link ID. Each Stratum link
should be given a unique Link ID.
Next, set the Antenna Aiming field to Enabled .
Apply any changes you have made and then use the down arrow to move to the [^OK] field and press Enter to
return to the System Administration menu.
Never attempt to reset the Stratum to factory defaults while in Antenna Aiming mode. See “Restoring
Factory Defaults” on page 75 for details.
Setting up the Second IDU
The installation for the second IDU is identical to the procedure for the first IDU, described above. Use the same
Link ID for the second IDU.
Also, for remote management purposes, be sure to configure the second IDU with a unique IP address that is on the
same IP subnet as the first IDU’s IP address.
