Ethernet Parameters
Note 1:
The RJ-45 port and the MII port cannot be used simultaneously.
Note 2:
The MII port is intended for use with 100 Mbps full duplex fiberoptic transceivers. If you intend to use a 10
Mbps half duplex connection, you should connect the Ethernet network to the IDU using the RJ-45 port to ensure
compatibility with all standard 10 Mbps PHYs.
Auto Negotiation, Speed, and Duplex settings:
If you intend to use the RJ-45 port,
Auto Negotiation
can be set to
Enabled
or
Disabled
. If Enabled, the speed and
duplex of the Ethernet port will be automatically negotiated between the Stratum IDU and the connecting Ethernet
device. If Disabled, the speed and duplex of the Ethernet port can be set by the user.
If you intend to use the MII port with a Fiberoptic transceiver,
Auto Negotiation
should be set to
Disabled
, the
Speed
should be set to
100 Mbps
, and the
Duplex
should be set to
Full-Duplex
. Also, configure the MII Fiberoptic
transceiver to a PHY address other than “17” to avoid conflict with the IDU’s internal PHY address.
IP address and Subnet Mask settings:
Assign an IP address to each Stratum IDU. This allows remote management without a direct cable connection to the
console port. A unique IP address should be assigned to the IDU at each end of a Stratum link. The IDUs at both
link ends must be in the same subnet.
Also note that while the Stratum appears to use only one IP address, it actually uses two IP addresses. The
end-user/installer configures the Stratum with an IP address in the Ethernet Configuration screen. This IP address is
used to identify the Stratum on the Ethernet network (an SNMP workstation will report this IP address as belonging
to the Stratum’s Ethernet interface).
