Setting Antenna Polarization
Antenna polarization must be the same at both ends of each link
. For single links,
vertical polarization
is a
good default. For multiple links located on the same rooftop, alternating the antenna polarization of independent
links is recommended. Contact your Proxim Systems Engineer if you are interested in using more than one pair of
Stratum units in a multiple link solution. There is no performance difference between vertical and horizontal
polarization.
The Stratum units are shipped from the factory with vertical polarity (cable connectors facing
down
). Note that for
vertical polarity, the company logo appears in the top left corner of the unit, when viewed from the front.
To change to horizontal polarity, follow the steps below:
The following steps should be done in a clean setting to avoid getting any particles into the heat
seal.
1. Remove the 4 bolts holding the sunscreen and remove the sunscreen.
2. Remove the 4 spacers, 4 nuts, and lockwashers holding the heat sink in place.
3. Rotate the heat fin clockwise 90°.
4. Replace the spacers, lockwashers, and nuts for the heat sink (tighten to 24 inch-pounds using a torque
wrench).
5. Reattach the sunscreen.
The nuts, bolts, and spacers must be tightened to 24 inch-pounds to ensure adequate heat transfer
and avoid damage to the radio housing.
Note that when using horizontal polarity, the connectors are on the left and the company logo appears on the top
right of the unit, when viewed from the front.
