5-8. Hammer Tip Alignment (Figure 5-6)

ă1. Place ribbon drive in service position per paragraph 3-4c4.
ă2. Place hammer bank in service position per paragraph 3-4c5.
ă3. Loosen screw (1) of hammer (2) to be aligned.
ă4. Place alignment tool (3) over hammer tips.
ă5. Move hammer (2) until tip of hammer is in appropriate hole in tool (3).
ă6. Tighten screw (1) and remove tool (3).
ă7. Return hammer bank to operating position per paragraph 3-4c8.
ă8. Return ribbon drive to operating position per paragraph 3-4c9.

5-9. Platen Gap (Figure 5-7)

ă1. Disconnect power cord (1). Open front cover (2).
ă2. Remove paper from printer. Place ribbon drive in service position per paragraph 3-4c4.
ă3. Raise forms thickness lever to open position.

CAUTION

-

Hammer tips are susceptible to damage when subjected to a sideways

force.

ă4. Remove hammer bank cover.

(a) Force top edge of hammer bank cover (3) away from hammer bank (4).
(b) While maintaining the hammer bank cover (3) clear of hammer tips, lift lower edge

of cover off dowel pins (5).

(c) Lift cover (3) straight up and out.

ă5. Measure platen gap.

CAUTION

-

Take care not to damage paper ironer with feeler gauge.

(a) Insert flat feeler gauge (6) between platen (7) and hammer tips (8) within six hamĆ

mer positions of left end of hammer bank. Use 0.012 inch gauge for P6040 and

non-phase fire P6080; Use 0.010 inch gauge for phase fire P6080.

(b) Carefully lower Forms Thickness Lever until platen (7) just contacts feeler gauge

(6) with lever fully closed. Gauge should move with only slight friction. Make sure

gauge is vertical and in the same plane as hammer tips.

ă6. Repeat step 5 for right end of hammer bank.
