L iquid Unknown S ample
Take headspace of sample in environment
Increase exposure time
P lace sample into a vial and take headspace
Heat vial (warm with hand or other means
such as equipment in mobile lab) and take
headspace
Immerse S P ME directly into liquid
Take headspace with shorter exposure time
R educe the time of exposure in injector port.
Use a syringe to take the headspace and
deliver it into another vial. Take headspace
of the transferred headspace.
Allow sample on S P ME to evaporate before
injection (do this by exposing the S P ME
fiber to the atmosphere)
Dilute sample in appropriate solvent.
Immerse S P ME directly in liquid of the
dilution. Do this in a mobile lab under
engineering control. Be careful of possible
reactions with solvent. Use the M-8 paper
test to determine whether an aqueous or an
organic solvent should be used.
