Connecting the Gas Hoses

Make sure your laboratory meets all of the requirements listed in Chapter 2, before you begin to install
the system.

Fittings suitable for most commonly available gas regulators are provided in the installation kit supplied
with the spectrometer.

Air and nitrous oxide fittings have right-hand threads. Acetylene fittings have left-hand threads.

Gas hoses on the spectrometer

WARNING

Warning: Flammable Gases-Fire and Explosion Hazard

Acetylene is a flammable gas. Make sure that all the gas connections are gas-tight.
Check the connections and gas hoses regularly for leaks using a leak testing fluid.

Connect the purge (clear), air (black), nitrous oxide (blue), and acetylene (red) hoses to the

respective gas supplies. Fittings suitable for most commonly available gas regulators are provided in
the installation kit supplied with the instrument.

2.

Tighten all gas connections using the double wrench technique: hold the fitting on the regulator with
one wrench and tighten the compression nut on the gas hose with the other wrench. Acetylene
fittings have left-hand threads. Air and nitrous oxide fittings have right-hand threads.

3.

Only high quality purge gases (Air, Ar or N

2

) should be used. Minimum purity of 99.9% is

recommended. A high quality filter-dryer accessory is recommended for the removal of any
moisture from the purge gas.

4.

Turn the gases on. Test all gas connections for leaks using an approved gas leak detection fluid.
