Service Manual – Osmetech OPTI™ Analyzer 

Exhaust Fan 

 

Removal 

The Osmetech OPTI 1 is equipped with an internal exhaust fan which is used for 
cooling the electronic circuitry.   
 
The fan is controlled by the software.  T3 measures the air temperature inside the 
OPTI housing and is displayed in the 

DIAG1 - Temp

 menu.  If T3 rises above 

31.5 ° C, the fan is activated.  If T3 drops below 30.5 ° C, the fan turns off. 
 
To remove the fan, first open the lower portion of the analyzer.  Disconnect 
connector J10 which attaches to the main board.  Remove one (1) or two (2) 
screws of the fan retainer.  Next remove the retainer and slide the fan out of the 
analyzer. 

 

Installation 

Install the new fan in reverse order. 

 

Verification 

To test the fan go to 

DIAG1 – Temp 

and press 

ENTER

. Allow the instrument to 

warm-up so that T3 exceeds 32 degrees Celsius or until the fan turns on. Verify 
the proper fan operation by holding your hand over the rear vent covers. The fan 
will pull air through the air vents located on the bottom cover across the main 
board circuitry and through the cooling fan vent.  An outward air flow should be 
felt at the cooling van vent. In case no air flow is felt, look through the vent cover 
to check if the fan blades turn. If the fan does not turn in full rotations or is noisy, 
then the fan must be replaced.  A properly working fan should operate quietly 
and quickly cool the internal OPTI circuitry. 

 

 

Storage Compartment 

 
Located on the rear panel of the Osmetech OPTI 1 is a storage compartment used 
for storing accessories during transport.  To disassemble the storage 
compartment:

First separate the lower portion of the analyzer 

•

 

Then, slide the storage compartment out of the upper housing.   

 

To replace the storage compartment, fit the grooved edges of the compartment 
over the upper housing and slide it into place. Each OPTI 1 should have one 
Level 1 SRC and one Level 3 SRC.
