THE TELEPHONE ANSWERING DEVICE

THE TELEPHONE ANSWERING DEVICE
The fax machine's built-in telephone answering device works like any other answering machine, enabling
callers to leave messages when you are out.
As well as recording incoming messages, the TAD automatically combines forces with the fax machine to
make sure that no voice or fax message is lost.
In addition, the TAD can be controlled from a remote location and programmed to automatically forward its
messages to a telephone at a remote location at a preset time.
The only situation in which the TAD cannot be used is when the fax/phone switch is active.
Two types of messages are recorded on the TAD: those played to the caller
(outgoing messages)
and
those left by the caller
(incoming messages).
MESSAGES
OUTGOING MESSAGES
•
Outgoing message #1
This message lasts a maximum of 20 sec. and requests the caller to leave a message on the TAD.
For example:
You have dialled the telephone number of (company name and address). We're out at the moment.
Leave a message after the beep or, if you want to send us a fax, press
START
on your fax machine.
Thanks.
This is the message that is normally played when a call is answered by the TAD.
•
Outgoing message #2
This message lasts a maximum of 5 sec. and does not let the caller leave a message on the TAD.
This message is only sent when the TAD's memory is full or the
FAX/TEL. RX
operating mode is active
( See the RECEPTION chapter)
For example:
Please wait
After a few seconds, the user either answers the call or activates his fax machine.
•
Outgoing message for forwarding
This message is an announcement that will precede the forwarding of messages from the TAD to a
remote telephone.
INCOMING MESSAGES
These are the messages left by the caller. The number of messages that can be received depends on the
amount of memory available and may never exceed 59. They may be set to last a maximum of 30 or 60
seconds.
SYNTHESIZED MESSAGES
These are standard messages (in English only). These messages, which you enable yourself, are
particularly useful if you are to be away for some time. When you get back, the synthesized messages will
present the messages received in the mean time by the TAD. First of all, you will be informed of the number
of messages received and then, before each message received, of the day and time at which it was
received.
