WS4 Troubleshooting
POST Errors
Note 3
The POST cannot detect the Disk On Chip. The device is installed, not installed
correctly, not formatted, defective, or a system board/socket problem preventing the
POST from accessing the DOC.
In addition, there may be instances where a defective or corrupt Disk On Chip
prevents the workstation from booting, but a POST error is not reported.
Note 4
The POST cannot detect a Compact Flash (CF) Card. Check the following:
•
The CF Daughter card is not installed or not fully seated in its system board
connector.
•
The CF card is not installed in the CF Daughter Card.
•
The CF Daughter Card is defective. (Check for bent CF Card socket pins).
•
The CF card is defective (rare - but it does happen).
•
The System Board IDE interface is defective.
•
The CF card ATA device ID is not recognized by the WS4 POST. FB04-001
provides more information and a recovery procedure for this situation.
Note 5
If the POST indicates a touchscreen controller failure, check the following:
•
While the POST is underway (the LCD displays the blue screen /w MICROS
logo) we recommend the following:
•
Do not place objects on the screen.
•
Do not clean the touchscreen.
•
If the POST still fails the touchscreen, power off the unit and disconnect the
touchscreen ribbon cable from the touchscreen extension cable. Power up.
•
If the touchscreen POST error persists, this is likely a problem with the
system board controller or interface. This type of error is relatively rare.
•
If a touchscreen POST error is not reported, this indicates the touchscreen
glass is defective. This can happen even if there are no visible defects, but the
surface appears to have a ‘snake skin’ like texture. This is characteristic of the
MicroTouch touchscreens used in the first year of production. MicroTouch
touchscreens were used for about two years, but only the first year had quality
issues.
•
Touchscreens used after two years are from EloTouch Systems and are of
better quality, but still could be damaged by objects dropped on the screen.
