Workstation 4 and 4 LX Field Service Guide

Remove and Replace the WS4 and WS4 LX FRUs
Remove and Replace the Workstation 4 System Board

4. Remove the Touchscreen Extension Cable from J20.

5. Remove the remaining hardware from the System Board. This includes the three 

long stand-off’s positioned across the front of the System Board. Remove the 
board from the base.

6. Transfer devices as required from the defective system board to the replacement 

system board. This includes the CF Daughter Card and CF Card, CMOS Battery, 
DIMM, Disk On Chip, Boot Loader chip, and PCMCIA card if installed.

7. Before installing the replacement System Board, inspect the workstation base and 

shield and remove any foreign materials.

8. Install system board hardware. Refer to Figure 6-8. The three long stand-off’s are 

installed at the front of the board.

Installing LCD and Backlight Cables - AB28-I System Board 

9. The LCD and backlight interface cables shipped with the AB28-I and ABRD36 

System Boards do not include ground lugs. Install the LCD cable in J5 and install 
the backlight cable in J17. Install the touchscreen extension cable to J20 on the 
system board. To use cables with ground lugs on a newer board, see below. 

10. If you must install the LCD and Backlight cables with the ground lug on the 

AB28-I or ABRD36 System Board, refer to Figure 6-9. Note the location of pin 1 
and install the connectors with the proper offset as shown. Be sure to install the 
ground lug of each cable under the mounting screw or stand-off as shown.

WARNING

Installing older LCD or backlight cables on newer system 
boards could result in damage to the system board, LCD panel, 
or backlight inverter board. Refer to Figure 6-9 to install these 
cables properly.
