Configuring the OC-3 Working and Standby Module Pair

After selecting the field options you want, select the Apply Port Con-
figuration command (see Figure 3-16).
The port and channel configuration has been applied.
If you have completed the configuration of the primary working module,
the module pair is now configured for MSP protection and the working
module is ready to pass traffic.
After you configured the first Channelized STM-1 ATM MM/SM MSP
module, in an even- or odd-numbered slot, it is designated the “work-
ing” module and is now functioning in active status. The module in the
adjacent slot is designated the “standby protection” module and is now
functioning in standby status. As the signal is received in the working
(active) module, it is also being sent to the protection (standby) module,
which drops the signal because is it not needed. If the working module in
active status fails, the system puts the protection module into active sta-
tus, and the working module into standby status. At a later time when
the working module is replaced or otherwise made operational, the
active status cannot revert automatically to the working module. To
cause the active status to revert to the working module, you must apply a
command on the Channelized STM-1 ATM MM/SM MSP Configuration
window (see Figure 3-16 and Table 3-14).
With the conclusion of this procedure, your module pair(s) are ready to
pass traffic.
4 If you have finished all configuration on the active module, you should
save the configuration by completing “Saving the Equipment Configura-
tion and Logging Off”, the next procedure.
This chapter concludes with the procedures for viewing the connection
statistics, which are after the “Saving the Equipment Configuration and
Logging Off” procedure.
