RAID/HBA card replacement
RAID/HBA cards are in the upper and lower trays that are accessed from the front of the server. Procedures
for removing and installing RAID/HBA cards in the upper and lower trays are different.
A node may be able to self-correct for other adapter card errors. However, a failed HBA can lead to system
degradation and should be quickly addressed.

The following indicates a failed HBA adapter:
• vCenter Alarms or Hardware Status shows an alert.
• The disk or the system runs slowly.
• The hypervisor cannot detect SSDs and HDDs, or the red LEDs on the drives are illuminated.
• The hypervisor or BIOS does not detect the HBA card.
Attention:
Replacing the RAID adapter might impact your RAID configurations. Back up your data before
you begin to avoid any data loss due to a RAID configuration change.
Remove a RAID/HBA card (upper tray)
The upper RAID/HBA card is in the upper compute tray or optional storage tray that is accessed from the
front of the server. After removing the upper tray and fan cage, disconnect the RAID/HBA card from the
storage interposer; then, disconnect the three cables from the RAID/HBA card and remove it from the tray.

CAUTION:
The power-control button on the device and the power switch on the power supply do not turn off the
electrical current supplied to the device. The device also might have more than one power cord. To
remove all electrical current from the device, ensure that all power cords are disconnected from the
power source.
