Technique combined with proper tools makes this
pesky job easy. First, note the orientation of the
spring to the keeper (the spring has a closed side and
an open side).
With a keeper removal tool (modi
fi
ed Stanley® Mini
wonder bar, part #55-045). Use the short end of the
bar and
fi
le or carefully grind the beveled ends to a
fl
at/blunt surface. Using the edge of a suitable
fl
at
fi
le, open the nail-pulling slot to 0.156”. This will allow
the post to pass into this slot.
To use the keeper removal tool, it is best to have
the closed side of the spring to the open end of the
keeper. Approach the open end of keeper with the
tool at 45° angle. Push the spring down and move the
tool toward the post. Use your thumb on the back
side of the keeper to rotate the keeper in a rolling
motion back over the top of the clutch post.
