Removing a SATA hard disk drive
To remove a SATA disk drive from bay 4 or 5, complete the following steps.

1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
on page 59.
2. Turn off the server and all peripheral devices; then, disconnect the power cords
and all external cables.
3. Remove the cover (see “Removing the cover” on page 61).
4. Disconnect the cables from the drive that is to be removed or from both drives
in the drive cage, if two drives are installed.
5. Remove the thumbscrew that secures the hard disk drive cage to the chassis.
6. Grasp the hard disk drive cage and rotate it up until it locks into place on the
chassis.
Note: You can remove the drive cage from the server by lifting up and gently
pulling it out of the server. It is not necessary to remove the drive cage to
install the drives.
7. Remove the four screws (two on each side) that secure the drive to the drive
cage, and slide the drive out of the cage.
8. If you are instructed to return the drive, follow all packaging instructions, and
use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
