6. Connect one end of the signal cable into the back of the drive and make sure
that the other end of this cable is connected into the IDE connector on the
system board. See “System-board internal connectors” on page 8 for the
connector locations on the system board.
Note: Route the signal cable so that it does not block the airflow to the rear of
the drives or over the microprocessor.
7. Connect the power cables to the back of the drive. The connectors are keyed
and can be inserted only one way.
8. Install the bezel (see “Installing the bezel” on page 64).
9. Install the cover (see “Installing the cover” on page 62).
10. Reconnect the external cables and power cords to the server; then, connect
the power cords to electrical outlets.
11. Turn on the attached devices; then, turn on the server.
Removing an optional tape drive
To remove a tape drive, complete the following steps.
1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
on page 59.
2. Turn off the server and all peripheral devices; then, disconnect the power cords
and all external cables.
3. Remove the cover (see “Removing the cover” on page 61).
4. Remove the bezel (see “Removing the bezel” on page 63).
5. Disconnect the cables from the tape drive that is to be removed.
6. Remove the screws from the side of the tape drive; then grasp the tape drive
and pull it out of the front of the server. Store the screws in a safe place for
reuse later.
