Removing an adapter
To remove an adapter, complete the following steps.

1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
on page 59.
2. Turn off the server and all attached devices; then, disconnect the power cords
and all external cables.
3. Remove the cover (see “Removing the cover” on page 61).
Note: It might be helpful to lay the server on its left side for the remainder of
this procedure.
4. Disconnect any cables from the adapter.
5. Rotate the front adapter retention bracket upward.
6. From inside the server, press down on the rear adapter retention bracket. The
retention bracket springs open.
7. Carefully grasp the adapter by its top edge or upper corners, and pull the
adapter from the server.
8. If the server will be used before a replacement adapter is installed, install an
expansion-slot cover in the slot.
Note: Expansion-slot covers must be installed on all vacant slots. This
maintains the electronic emissions standards of the server and ensures
proper ventilation of server components.
9. If you are instructed to return the adapter, follow all packaging instructions, and
use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you. If you are not
returning the adapter, store it in a safe place for reuse.
