10/100 Mbps Ethernet controller troubleshooting chart
You can use the following troubleshooting chart to find solutions to
Ethernet controller problems that have definite symptoms.
Controller problems Action
The Configuration/Setup
Utility program reports the
Ethernet controller interrupt
utility as 0 or 255. The PCI BIOS is not configuring the Ethernet
controller or adapter correctly.
The PCI BIOS interrupt settings are incorrect.
Check for interrupt conflicts with ISA devices. If
conflicts are found, reserve the ISA interrupts (see
“ISA Legacy Resources” on page 55) so that the PCI
BIOS will assign another nonconflicting PCI
interrupt value.
The Configuration/Setup
Utility program reports
No
PCI Bus.
The Configuration/Setup Utility program has been
run on another computer that does not have any
PCI slots.
Run the Configuration/Setup Utility program on
your server so that the PCI BIOS will configure the
Ethernet controller or adapter correctly.
The server stops running
when loading device
drivers. The PCI BIOS interrupt settings are incorrect.
Check for interrupt conflicts with ISA devices. If
conflicts are found, reserve the ISA interrupts (see
“ISA Legacy Resources” on page 55) so that the PCI
BIOS will assign another nonconflicting PCI
interrupt value.
The diagnostics are
completed successfully, but
the connection fails. 1. Make sure that you are using Category 5
Ethernet cabling when operating the server at
either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps.
2. Make sure that the network cable is securely
attached.
3. Make sure that the client and server device
drivers are using the same network protocol.
