Doors
Authorisation from HMC is needed before carrying out work on the doors of the
vehicle.
The Body Builder must ensure that the changes made to the vehicle, e.g. the
attachment of elements to the side walls, will not prevent the doors from being
opened, even after an accident.
A minimum clearance to the ground must be observed to allow the comfortable and
safe access of the occupants to the interior of the vehicle.
4.3.7
Wheel wells
According to the rules, the vehicle‘s body shell must be designed in such a way that
spray from the wheels can be avoided as far as possible.
If the Body Builder wants to make modifications to the wheel wells, the following
should be considered:
- The top of the wheels must be covered completely by the wheel wells.
- If the Body Builder wants to lower the wheel wells, it must take into account the
movements and vibrations of the suspension.
- The wheel wells must be wider than the maximum space occupied by the tyre.
Care must be taken to ensure that the permissible vehicle main dimensions are
not exceeded.
See chapter 2.3.2 "Vehicle main dimensions".
NOTICE
- To obtain more detailed information about authorisations and certificates of
conformity.
See General Book, chapter 2.6 "Verification and certification of super
-
structures".
WARNING
Doors that incorporate safety elements such as airbag sensors cannot be modi
-
fied, since this could affect the proper performance of these systems during a
crash, preventing the protection of the occupants of the vehicle.
NOTICE
- For installation of windows on the rear doors,
see Chapter 4.3.5 "Windows".
- If the modifications which have been carried out on the body shell can prevent
access to important equipment or groups in the vehicle, covers should be built,
to provide proper access to these elements.
