4.1 Replacing an Expansion Card
This section describes how to replace expansion cards to add ports or functions, or rectify the
faults caused by damaged expansion cards.
Context
Required tools:

Phillips screwdriver
l
ESD wrist strap
l
ESD bag
NOTICE
l
The expansion card is not hot-swappable. Therefore, do not replace the expansion card
when the device is running. Otherwise, the expansion card may be damaged.

Replacing expansion cards interrupts services. You are advised to perform the replacement
during off-peak hours.
l
Wear the ESD wrist strap while working on the USG to avoid possible damages to the
USG and expansion cards.
Procedure
Step 1
Ensure that all configurations are saved.
Step 2
Press the power button to power off the USG.
Step 3
Take notes on the connections between each Ethernet cable/optical fiber and ports on the
expansion card. Then remove all Ethernet cables and optical fibers from the expansion card.
For optical fibers, remove the optical transceivers from the expansion card, plug in the dust
cap to the optical port and connectors on the expansion card and optical transceivers, and
arrange the cables and fibers in order for further use.
