Defining the Command View Management Port
The Command View SDM Management Port lets you define a secure port through
which the NAS server and Command View NAS can communicate. The port is
defined by port designation such as eth0 and eth1; it is not defined by IP address.
eth0 is always the on-board port and is the default management port.
To define the management port, you must use the command line interface rather
than Command View NAS. (See
Command View SDM Limitations on page 239
for directions.)
To set the management port, execute:
setSystemManagementNetworkCard ethX
To verify that the management port has been set up correctly, execute:
getSystemManagementNetworkCard
This command returns the name of your management port.
Note: You can communicate with Command View NAS only through the designated
management port with the IP configuration that you have designated for that port.
Note: If the port is a non-configured port, you cannot communicate with the server.
NIC Bonding
The NAS 8000 software allows you to bond two or more NICs so that they
function as a single NIC, providing either NIC failover or load balancing
capabilities.
For bonded NICs in failover mode, only one of the NICs is active at any one time.
Failover occurs when one of the NICs in the bond fails. Upon NIC failure, the
standby NIC within the bond takes over for the failing NIC, with no loss of data.
Failover generates an error in the log. There is no automatic failback between
bonded NICs; the NIC currently handling traffic will continue to do so unless and
until it fails.
In load balancing mode, the bond handles packets in a round-robin manner,
resulting in a higher aggregate throughput than is possible with a single NIC port.
The amount of throughput gain is dependent on the bandwidth of the network. For
