HP StorageWorks NAS 8000 User’s Guide

Restoring the NAS Server and Storage Array in a High 

Availability Environment

The procedures for recovering NAS servers and storage arrays in high availability 
(HA) environments are similar to those previously described. In the case of HA, 
the DRF contains additional information, including the cluster package 
configuration and some control files.

You can use the NAS 8000 disaster recovery solution as part of a non-disruptive 
recovery of one node while the other nodes in the cluster continue to operate 
normally. A non-disruptive recovery essentially involves the ability to exploit the 
NAS 8000 cluster’s failover capabilities and disaster recovery functionality to 
recover the full cluster without experiencing down time or losing any 
configuration state.

For a single-node failure, the normal recovery method is to:

■

Reinstall the operating system software on the replacement node

■

Recover the server configuration using a saved DRF file

■

Rejoin the HA cluster

The HA registry replication mechanism will take the appropriate actions to 
synchronize the registries among the nodes of the cluster.

In the unlikely event of a multi-node cluster failure, do the following:

1. Reinstall the NAS 8000 operating system on both nodes.

2. Recover both servers using their own DRF files. 

Note:  

Do not mix up the DRF files because there is hardware dependent information in 

the registry.

3. Reboot both nodes and start the cluster.
