Recovering from a Disaster
181
— For a dedicated-attach environment: If the replacement storage array(s)
have LUNs already defined, the system will ask whether you want to
initialize the array(s). Answer yes. The text command will initialize the
storage array(s) and ask you to reboot the NAS 8000. After rebooting, run
the
recoverSystemStorageDedicatedAttachConfig
a
second time.
— For a SAN-attach environment: The system will ask you to delete any
used LUNs visible to the NAS 8000, and to create and make visible new
LUNs in the SAN environment. After creating the new LUNs, reboot the
NAS 8000. After rebooting, run
recoverSystemStorageSanConfig
a second time.
After rebooting, the text command will reconstruct your volume groups
and volumes on the replacement storage array or SAN. LUNs are also
created for the dedicated-attach environment.
The text command also updates your system registry to reflect the serial
numbers of the replacement storage devices that are connected. In
addition, any snapshot volumes that were defined on the previous storage
configuration are deleted from the system registry. You will need to
manually redefine any snapshot volumes that existed on the failed storage
device. Note: Snapshot volumes should be recreated only after you have
restored your user data.
4. The recovery process checks available capacity of new storage hardware,
detects which storage arrays need to be re-configured, and modifies the NAS
registry to recreate LUNs, volume groups, volumes, and shares on the
replacement storage array(s).
— If the storage recovery process completes with no errors, user data may be
restored from tape onto the replacement storage array(s).
— If the recovery process encountered errors, the configuration cannot be
automatically recovered with the replacement storage array(s). At this
point, you may attempt recovery again with different replacement storage
array(s), or alternatively, start with a new NAS operating system and
rebuild the array configurations manually.
5. After the text command in
step 3
completes, you may use the system
normally. No additional reboot is required. At this point, user data may be
reloaded onto the recreated file volumes, and then, if needed, snapshot
volumes may be recreated manually.
6. To log out of the command line interface, execute:
exit
