MIDI 1O•9
Piloting WK3 with a master keyboard
Master keyboards are generally mute instruments
(without sound generators) and require external
sound sources to produce sounds. The WK3
sound generator can be exploited as a sound
source by an external controller (master key-
board) by using WK3 as a slave device.
In order for the master keyboard to simulate the
WK3 keyboard, WK3 must operate in MIDI Com-
mon mode.
All Bank Select (CC00) and Program Change
(PC) messages normally used to select WK3
sounds are interpreted as Performance Change,
Style Change, Song/Style Change or Song
Change messages if transmitted to WK3 on the
Common channel.
ASSIGN THE WK3 COMMON CHANNEL
1.
Press MIDI in the EDIT PERFORMANCE section to
enter «Edit MIDI».
The first page shows several MIDI param-
eters to choose from.
2.
Press F1 («Channel») to pass to the Channel as-
signments page
3.
Press PAGE + to pass to page 2 of the Channels
page.
The display shows the Common parameter
selected (flashing).
The Common Channel is off by default.
4.
Assign a Common Channel.
Rotate the DIAL or use sliders F1, F2 or F3 to
change the value of the parameter.
Assign
any value from 1-16. The Common channel
assignment is a Performance parameterwhich
can be stored to a Performance.
4.
Press ESCAPE TWICE to exit «Edit MIDI».
5.
Programme the master keyboard to transmit on
the same channel as the WK3 Common Channel.
Consult the owner’s manual of the master
keyboard for information regarding the as-
signment of the transmission channel.
SELECTING SOUNDS AND THE REAL-PER-
FORMANCES VIA MIDI COMMON
It is not possible to select single WK3 sounds
directly from a master keyboard communicating
with WK3 via the Common Channel.
The Bank Select (CC00) and Program Change
(PC) messages received by WK3 on the Com-
mon channel select Performances.
If the Performances also contain Style-Perform-
ance data, selecting a Performance will recall the
memorised Style (with Style Lock off).
The following table lists the messages required
to select the WK3 Performances.
