6•2 User Guide
File Types and extensions
The types of File encountered when working in
the WK3 Disk environment are identified by an
extension attached after the file name. The ta-
ble opposite shows the file types and related ex-
tensions. Files sets that relate to entire groups,
such as the Performances or the Styles, do not
show extensions.
THE DISK FUNCTIONS
Any file handling operation concerning the trans-
fer of data to and from the main memory takes
place in «Disk mode» which is entered by press-
ing the DISK button.
The principal disk operations are spread across
4 display pages:
1. Load Loads data to RAM
2. Load WS, CD Loads compatible files to
RAM
3. Save Saves data from RAM to disk
4. Utility Disk Formatting procedures
and File Erase function
(erase data from disk)
Pass from one page to another with PAGE+/
PAGE– buttons.
Escape from «Disk» by pressing ESCAPE.
Incorporated functions
In addition to the principal functions described
above, WK3 incorporates three functions within
the main disk operating structure: Preload, Play
direct from disk and Slow/Fast load.
Preload (background loading): The Preload op-
eration loads data to the WK3 memory while the
sequencer is playing without stopping it.
«Preload» loads to the first available free desti-

Perf All the Performances of the
PERFORMANCE GROUPS (in-
cluding Style-Performances of
ROM Styles) .
Style .UXX (where XX = 01-16). Single User

ances of the USER GROUPS.
Styles All the User Styles of the USER
GROUPS.
Song .WK3 Single WK3 Song or Song/Style
of the REAL/SONG GROUPS.
Sample All the Samples of the Sample
RAM.*
MidiFile .MID Standard MIDI files (SMF0 and
1) loaded to the Real/Song
Groups. A converted MidiFile
can be saved as a WK3 Song
file.**
WS .ALL Compatible WS Song files.***
WS files converted with the “WS
Play” function cannot be edited
or saved as WK3 files while
those converted using the “WS
Load” function can be modified
and saved as WK3 Song files.
CD .SNG Compatible CD Songs
.STY Compatible CD Styles
.SCD Compatible CD Samples
(Songs, Styles, Samples, All)
can be loaded into WK3 memo-
ry. The converted files can be
saved as WK3 files.
*Samples from WK Samples kits can be loaded
to the first 6 positions of the Samples bank. A
Sample captured using the WK3 Sampling func-
tion loads to location 8. CD samples load to lo-
cation 7.
** MidiFiles are not included in “.ALL’ file sets.
